Charitable Remainder Trusts
A charitable remainder trust is an irrevocable gift plan that allows you to provide income to yourself or others for life or for a term of years. When the trust term ends, the final principle amount passes to South County Hospital.
- Unitrust: Income adjusted annually as a fixed percentage of the fair market
value of the trust. Payments must be at least 5% of trust’s value.
- Annuity Trust: Income payments are fixed and determined when the gift is made. Income must be at least 5% of the trust’s initial value and is paid out of trust income or trust principal if income is not adequate.
Benefits Include:
- Cash flow to yourself or others while still making a gift to charities.
- May claim charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes when created.
- No tax liability is incurred upon transfer of appreciated property.
- Maintain control –irrevocable but can change charitable beneficiaries
