The new Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging Center at South County Hospital is southern Rhode Island's resource for the latest advancements in medical imaging, providing you and your family with a comprehensive range of radiology services, including X-rays, CT, Ultrasound, MRI, Interventional Radiology, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, and PET/CT Scan. The Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging Center has been designed to offer you the latest technology in medical imaging from a private and comfortable setting.
Board Certified Radiologists, highly trained staff
At the Outpatient Diagnostic Center, your imaging exams are performed by certified technologists and sonographers and interpreted by experienced Board Certified radiologists. Our PACS (Picture Archiving and Storage System) allows us to maintain your imaging studies electronically, creating a permanent and easily accessible electronic medical record - a great benefit should you require emergency care or treatment.

By choosing South County Hospital for your diagnostic imaging needs, you can be assured of the highest level of expertise and the most sophisticated technology. The Outpatient Diagnostic Center is home to the most technologically advanced medical imaging equipment available including:
- A Magnetic Resonance Imaging System (MRI) with one of the strongest magnets in the area, that will provide maximum diagnostic detail, short duration exams, in a private suite that is a permanent part of the Center.
- A Computerized Tomography Scanner (CT) capable of capturing multiple images rapidly to reduce the patient time in the scanner.
- A dedicated Interventional Radiology Suite capable of performing the latest in complex imaging procedures (such as angiography, aortic aneurysm repair, vertebroplasty and uterine fibroid embolization), which can be alternatives to more invasive surgical procedures.
- The only Nuclear Medicine department in the area providing a full range of nuclear studies.
- Ultrasound units that provide highly detailed diagnostic images in addition to 3-dimensional technology. In association with the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Center in Providence, genetic counseling services, level 2 obstetrical surveys and amniocentesis testing is performed.
- Digital imaging that allows the technologists and radiologists to manipulate images for increased diagnostic detail, speedy and accurate reports.
- Positron Emission/CT Tomography Scanner (PET/CT), a new imaging modality that detects changes in the cellular function, providing important information in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, heart disease, and neurological disease. (Provided by Alliance Imaging, RIPET).
Women's Imaging Center
The Women's Imaging Center offers advanced technology in diagnostic and screening mammograms, breast ultrasound, breast biopsy, and bone densitometry in the Women's Health Center.
