Frequently Asked Questions

The new Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging Center at South County Hospital is southern Rhode Island's resource for the latest advancements in medical imaging. At the Diagnostic Imaging Center, we have a dedicated Interventional Radiology Suite capable of performing the latest in complex imaging procedures (such as angiography, aortic aneurysm repair, vertebroplasty, and uterine fibroid embolization), which can be alternatives to more invasive surgical procedures.

What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional Radiology is a medical specialty that uses image-guided, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic techniques that, in some cases, are an alternative to conventional surgery. Interventional radiology procedures often involve the use of small catheters (tubes) or other devices, inserted through the skin via a very small incision or needle puncture, and guided by radiologic imaging methods. Interventional radiology procedures are less costly and traumatic to the patient than traditional surgery, and typically result in shorter recovery times.

Board Certified Radiologists, highly trained staff
At the Outpatient Diagnostic Center, your procedure is performed by experienced Board Certified Interventional Radiologists with the assistance of highly trained certified technologists and registered nurses. Our PACS (Picture Archiving and Storage System) allows us to maintain your imaging studies electronically, creating a permanent and easily accessible electronic record-a great benefit should you require emergency care or treatment.
