What is MRI?
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses radio waves and a strong magnetic field rather than x-rays to provide clear and detailed pictured of internal organs and tissues. The technique is valuable for the diagnosis of a broad range of conditions, including cancer, heart and vascular disease, stroke, and joint and musculoskeletal disorders. Each year, the Diagnostic Imaging Center at South County Hospital performs thousands of MRI studies. Among the most common are MRI scans of the brain, upper extremities, lower joints, and the spine (cervical, thoracic, and lumbar).

At the Outpatient Diagnostic Center, your MRI exams are performed by certified technologists and interpreted by experienced Board Certified radiologists. Our PACS (Picture Archiving and Storage System) allows us to maintain your imaging studies electronically, creating a permanent and easily accessible electronic record-a great benefit should you require emergency care or treatment.
