Image-Guided Joint Replacement

401-782-8000

Long recognized for its specialty in orthopedics and its commitment to offering the very finest orthopedic services, South County Hospital is one of only two hospitals in Rhode Island to offer patients undergoing knee and hip replacement procedures the benefit of a highly advanced computer-assisted, image-guided navigation system.

How does it work?
This advanced technology is called VectorVision, created by BrainLAB, and is often referred to as a "global positioning system" for the body. Sensors pick up signals from the surgical tools and implants, as well as the patient's knee or hip, and images on a monitor show the surgeon the best axis and positioning of the implant.

Why is this innovation important?
Precise positioning of the implant is essential to assuring that a patient will have optimal, pain-free functioning of the joint. BrainLAB's VectorVision helps surgeons to achieve this with extremely fine margins, which leads to superior outcomes, smaller incisions, less post-operative pain, and a potentially longer life span of the implant.
