The South County Hospital Orthopedics Center is a partnership between South County Hospital, South County Orthopedics, and VNS Home Health Services that is dedicated to delivering new levels of excellence in orthopedic care. Designed to provide a seamless continuum of care, the South County Hospital Orthopedics Center has been recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of RI, a designation awarded only to facilities that have demonstrated better care and overall outcomes for patients who undergo knee or hip replacement procedures. The Orthopedics Center offers a complete patient-centered experience—from the initial visit to the doctor’s office through pre-surgery preparations and education, admission to the Hospital’s orthopedics wing, follow-up care planning, and post-op therapy to in-home care.

Dedicated orthopedics wing, spacious private rooms
Designed to meet the latest standards in orthopedic care, the dedicated orthopedics wing at South County Hospital has 10 spacious single-patient rooms, each with a full bath and ample space for post-op physical and occupational therapy. Other features include extra-wide hallways for ambulation, an on-site patient and family education center, comfortable family waiting and consultation rooms, and electronic medical records access for staff.

The Board Certified orthopedic and neuro-spinal surgeons on the Medical Staff* at South County Hospital are highly respected, offering patients the latest advancements in orthopedic surgery, including gender-specific knee replacement, computer-assisted image-guided total knee and total hip replacement, and hip resurfacing, and a record of superior outcomes. The South County Hospital Orthopedics Center is also fully staffed with experienced surgical nurses with advanced training in orthopedic and neurosurgery patient care.

After surgery
For post-surgery care, South County Hospital offers an extensive Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and home care through VNS Home Health Services. There are a range of other services and programs available to assist you during your recovery, including South County Quality Care, which offers skilled personal care and homemaking assistance, and South County Surgical Supply, a resource for a comprehensive line of the latest in-home healthcare supplies. For the many orthopedic patients who may take Coumadin® (warfarin–a common blood-thinning medication) for a time after surgery, South County Hospital also offers Anticoagulation Management Services.
