Public Flu Vaccination Clinic to be Held at South County Hospital
South County Hospital will hold a public flu vaccination clinic for adults on Saturday, November 28, from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., in its Potter Conference Center. The vaccine is for the seasonal flu, NOT H1N1 influenza.
The clinic is for adults, aged 19 years and older, and will be staffed by clinicians from South County Hospital and VNS Home Health Services.
The vaccine is free to Rhode Island residents age 19 and older who carry any type of Rhode Island health insurance coverage. Proof of health insurance coverage must be presented to receive the vaccine for free. For all others, the cost of the vaccination is $30, which can be paid by check or cash.
According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control, www.cdc.gov/flu), the flu vaccine is recommended for everyone aged 65 and older; all pregnant women; adults with chronic conditions such as asthma, heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, diabetes or anemia; adults with weakened immune systems caused by cancer or cancer treatment; healthcare workers; residents of nursing homes or long-term care facilities; and anyone living with or caring for a child aged 6-months or younger.
